1.0 FTE Term, Literacy consultant (.5) /Literacy Coach (.5) with a focus on Middle Years/Senior Years Literacy and ELA Curriculum

Effective September 8, 2026 - June 30, 2027

The division is seeking a collaborative, relationship-focused 1.0 FTE Term Literacy consultant (.5) /Literacy Coach (.5) with a focus on Middle Years/Senior Years Literacy and ELA Curriculum. The successful candidate will become part of the division’s Curriculum, Assessment and Learning Services Consultant team. This team is comprised of consultants and coaches who report to the Divisional Principal of Curriculum.

Background and Information

The purpose of the Pembina Trails School Division Curriculum, Assessment and Learning Services Department is to ensure the currency and quality of all curricular and extra-curricular programs to achieve student success in Pembina Trails schools. The work is guided by Provincial curriculum releases, educational research, and divisional beliefs/policy/practice statements that include:

Curriculum, Assessment & Learning Services team members are responsible for:

Aligning access of programming opportunities and pedagogy across schools and classrooms
Coordinating and supporting divisional program events
Enhancing the ability to lead and guide instruction and instructional leadership
Improving student achievement and success for all students
Modernizing pedagogy of all educators
Promoting equity, diversity, inclusion and innovation in all schools and spaces within

Key activities of the Curriculum, Assessment and Learning Services Department are to support learning and teaching by:

Assisting with the development and selection of appropriate research informed materials and resources
Collaborating with school teams on initiatives and projects
Coordinating and delivering professional learning/professional networking opportunities
Promoting current research and best practices

Applicants must:

Have demonstrated understanding and experience promoting inclusive educational practices in Middle Years and Senior Years programming
Experience in Literacy and English Language Arts curriculum implementation.
Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding in Middle Years and Senior Years Development in Literacy.
Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of comprehensive literacy approaches consistent with provincial Guiding Principles for a Comprehensive Approach to Reading Instruction in Manitoba, as well as our divisional Commitment to Student Success in Language and Literacy document
Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding for Middle Years and Senior Years assessments and specific data collection for literacy
Have demonstrated experience planning for all, identifying, and incorporating curricular access points as a universal approach for identified priority classroom/student needs.
Have demonstrated experience and application of the co-teaching model including data collection, co-planning and co-assessing.
Have demonstrated knowledge of the curriculum, planning and programming with the leadership skills to support teachers in the application of supports and interventions consistent with Middle years and Senior Years programming.
Have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
Have a demonstrated commitment to professional development and personal growth planning.
Possess excellent interpersonal communication, problem-solving, facilitation, and mediation skills.
Have demonstrated success working as a member of a collaborative team.

Qualifications:

Extensive teaching experience, and exceptional expertise with the applications of inclusive teaching and assessment practices to support classroom teachers in responding to student learning with a focus on Middle Years and Senior Years development.
Bachelor’s, Post-Baccalaureate Certificate, or Master’s Degree in Education with a focus on the applications of inclusive practice.

Responsibilities:

To collaborate with members of the Curriculum, Assessment & Learning Services Department and to advance Divisional Literacy Recommendations and action plans, as well as the implementation of the new ELA curriculum in Middle and Senior Years.
To provide leadership in professional learning opportunities to support teachers, in meeting the needs of all learners at middle and senior years.
To provide support through co-teaching.
To assist school teams with collaborative inquiry cycle approaches of data analysis and continuous improvement.
To consult with the Curriculum, Assessment, and Learning Services Leadership Team.
