NETWORK MANAGER – MICROSOFT 365 & DATA MANAGEMENT

Purpose of Position
The Pembina Trails School Division’s Learning and Information Technologies department oversees all technology throughout its 36 schools and administrative offices.
Working with schools and technology staff, Network Managers ensure the optimal operation of networks and centralized IT services. This includes but is not limited to local and wide area networks, storage, backups, Internet and Intranet, file and print, e-mail, applications, telecommunications, cloud technologies and security.
The Network Manager, focused on Microsoft 365 and data management includes managing and optimizing our Microsoft 365 environment within a Hybrid Azure AD and On-Prem Active Directory infrastructure. The primary focus of this role is Microsoft 365 administration and data governance, supporting students, teachers, and staff. Secondary responsibilities include Microsoft Copilot integration and Power BI reporting to enhance educational insights and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Manages and maintains Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive) in a Hybrid Azure AD / On-Prem AD environment.
- Configures and monitors identity synchronization (Azure AD Connect) and troubleshoots hybrid authentication issues.
- Implements security and compliance policies tailored for an educational environment (MFA, Conditional Access, DLP, retention policies).
- Administers user accounts, licenses, and permissions for students, teachers, and staff.
- Automates administrative tasks using PowerShell and Microsoft Graph API.
- Designs and maintains data architecture for Microsoft 365 and integrated systems.
- Implements data governance frameworks to ensure compliance with student privacy regulations.
- Classifies and labels sensitive data using Microsoft Purview and enforces compliance in hybrid environments.
- Monitors and audits data access, permissions, and lifecycle management.
- Develops Power BI dashboards and reports for educational and operational insights.
- Prepares and models data for analytics.
- Deploys and configures Microsoft Copilot across Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
- Establishes Copilot governance policies, ensuring secure and compliant AI usage in an educational setting.
- Develops technical, training and FAQ documentation.
- Researches, tests, and evaluates, applications, and standards in view of recommending appropriate purchases.
- Maintains accurate records including IT requests (work orders), network asset inventories, configuration documents, technical specifications, and troubleshooting records.
- Recommends, schedules, and performs network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
- Mentors’ other members of the IT team.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned to support the efficient operation of the Department.
Skills and Qualifications
Skill and Knowledge – Required:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, systems and data analysis or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 administration in Hybrid Azure AD / On-Prem AD environments.
- Strong understanding of identity management, synchronization, and security.
- Experience with data governance and compliance frameworks in an educational environment.
- Experience analyzing and documenting processes and process re-engineering.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Copilot deployment and governance.
- Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards,
- Proficiency in Power BI, DAX, and data modeling.
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
- Working technical knowledge in Windows 10 or 11, Windows Server, Active Directory, PowerShell and M365.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity and privacy principles.
- Excellent planning, facilitating, and organizing skills.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
