Employment Classification: Educational Assistant 2 (EA2) REHABILITATION ASSISTANT - MUST BE CERTIFIED AS A REHAB ASSISTANT
Hours: 3 hours per day

Position Description
Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of school administrators and with the input of other professionals, Educational Assistants promote and support inclusive practices within Pembina Trails School Division. Educational Assistants work collaboratively is assisting students with diverse needs and abilities, fostering engagement in the learning environment.
Duties included in the role of all Educational Assistants:
- Working within established school structures, including classroom management structures, behavioural rules and student expectations
- Working with students with behavioural and learning challenges
- Providing academic assistance to students in classroom, small group and individual settings
- Delivering specialized or adapted programming to students under the direction of the classroom teacher and resource teacher
- Providing documentation of students-specific program performance
- Providing supports for students with challenging educational needs
- Supervising recess and lunch duty
- Supervising and assisting with the swim program, which includes entering the water
- Administering student medication as determined by the student’s U.R.I.S. plan
- Supporting students in community based programs
- Supporting students’ emotional, behavioural and physical needs
- Being flexible in terms of adapting to students’ educational programming
- Using augmentative and alternative communication
- Facilitating the transport of students between education sites
Duties specific to the role of an EA2 include some or all of the following tasks:
- Diapering and assisting with or providing for personal care needs
- Providing toileting assistance to students
- Lifting and assisting with transitional movements and mobility training
- Administering health care procedures including gastronomy feeding
- Utilizing specialized devices and equipment
- Other duties as assigned
- Under the general supervision of the Principal, the Rehabilitation Assistant shall provide assistance with speech/language programming for students identified by the School Speech/Language Pathologist in collaboration with the school support team.
- Rehabilitation Certificate involving course work focused on development of OT/PT/SLP discipline specific skill set and related coursework in areas such as normal functioning, disabling conditions, physiology, psychology.
- Experience working with students requiring speech/language support would be an asset.
