Annual Salary Range: $26.70 - $28.43 depending on qualifications

Purpose of Position
The Bus Driver “Trainer” position is responsible for delivering school bus driver training and evaluation to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school. The incumbent in this role will also conduct audits according to the procedures as outlined by the Province of Manitoba and the Pembina Trails School Division.
Key Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Under the direction of the Director of Transportation, provides training to school bus drivers.
- Evaluates training procedures and practices.
- Carries out duties and acts in accordance with laws, policies, procedures, and regulations as outlined in:
- The Highway Traffic Act
- The Public Schools Act
- The Manitoba School Bus Driver’s Handbook
- The School Bus Driver Instructor’s Manual
- Policies and procedures of the Division
- Ensures the physical rotation of video records is completed and maintains records of audits. Views and stores electronically, selected segments. Reports any safety concerns and maintains confidentiality with respect to viewed segments.
- Develops and implements school bus driver training and maintains records pertaining to such training.
- Notifies the Director of Transportation immediately of any charges laid against a driver under the Highway Traffic Act or the Criminal Code of Canada.
- Notifies the Director of Transportation immediately of any medical condition that would impair a driver’s ability to carry out the responsibilities of their position.
- Acts as a spare bus driver or clerk dispatcher when needed.
- Maintains orderly student conduct on the bus and reports misconduct situations to the principal or designate of the school.
- Completes a daily pre-trip inspection of any assigned bus, reporting any defects and completes logbook entries.
- Maintains the interior and exterior of any assigned bus.
- Maintains fluid levels in any assigned bus and fuels buses as needed.
- Reports all accidents (students or vehicles) at the time of the accident.
- Conducts “Bus Evacuation” drills.
- Completes required forms and reports.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned to support the efficient operation of the Department.
Skills and Qualifications
Skill and Knowledge – Required:
- Current Class 2 Province of Manitoba Driver’s License.
- Current Manitoba School Bus Operator’s Certification.
- Excellent driving record as evidenced by a Manitoba Driver’s Abstract.
- Basic computer skills with Microsoft 365 (Word and Outlook).
- Ability to communicate clearly in English both orally and in writing.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to inspire and engage learners.
- Presentation and public speaking skills.
- Ability to maintain discretion with respect to sensitive or confidential information.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Skill and Knowledge – Desired:
- Current School Bus Driver Instructor Certificate or willingness to obtain.
- Extensive school bus driving experience.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands
- Work involves some standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
- Ability to lift objects weighing more than 25 kgs.
- May be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, fumes, and hazardous/poisonous chemicals.
