HUMAN ECOLOGY – MIDDLE AND SENIOR YEARS

 

Human Ecology teachers in Pembina Trails School Division are required to teach concepts and skills in foods and nutrition, clothing and textiles, home management, family relationships, and consumer education by utilizing the curriculum set out by Manitoba Education. 

 

Human Ecology teachers should be competent in teaching students in a lab-type classroom environment where they are required to provide individualized and small group instruction.  The teacher should have organized activities, which include, but are not limited to cooking and sewing so that preparation, instruction and cleanup in the kitchen and the lab are accomplished within the allotted class time.

 

The safety of the students and the teaching space is of the utmost importance in the lab teaching settings, and Human Ecology teachers will be held to a very high standard in this area. 

It is highly recommended that teachers have experience in the kitchen through either student teaching or past teaching experience.

 

Applicants must:

  • Be knowledgeable about current grade 7-12 human ecology curriculum.
  • Be proficient in required safety in a lab environment.
  • Possess skills in collaboration, communication, problem-solving, project based learning, and related technological skills.
  • Be committed to the success of all learners.
  • Be committed to continued and on-going professional development.

Academic Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Education and
  • One of the Human Ecology degrees as listed below:

New graduates:

  • Bachelor of Science in Human Nutritional Sciences (B.Sc.)
  • Bachelor of Health Studies (B.H.St.)
  • Bachelor of Environmental Design (B.Env.D.)

 

Established educators:

  • Bachelor of Human Ecology/Bachelor of Home Economics (B.H.Ec.)
  • Bachelor of Human Ecology in Family Social Sciences (B.H.Ecol. – Family Social Sciences)

 

Certification Requirements:

 

  • Possess a permanent teacher certificate.
  • Valid food handlers certificate.
  • CPR/First aid.

 

Duties: The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering provincial curriculum in an engaging, safe, and inclusive way for all learners.
