Position Title: General Labourer

Department: Facilities & Operations

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor – Facilities & Operations

Union Status: CUPE 4588-01

Location: Administration Office

Hours: Regular Full-Time

Wages: $30.49 per hour depending on qualifications

Language Requirement: English

Purpose of Position

 

The General Labourer provides support to the department for a variety of repair and services necessary to maintain the Division’s facilities and grounds.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

· Provides support for a wide variety of repair and services necessary to maintain and upgrade the Division’s facilities and grounds.

· Work includes (but is not limited to) grounds maintenance work, operation and repair/servicing of lawn or snow equipment, assisting trades people, shop maintenance and organization, stocking common inventory and deliveries.

· Assists in determining requirements for repairs, plan development, and work, as necessary.

· Prioritizes work to meet deadlines.

· Verifies receipt of goods for invoicing approval.

· Makes efficient use of time and materials.

· Maintains records of work performed.

· Maintains Divisional tools and equipment in safe and good working condition.

· Ensures the worksite is maintained in a safe and orderly fashion.

· Works cooperatively with other divisional staff and contractors.

· Performs other duties as may be assigned to support the efficient operation of the Department.

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

Skill and Knowledge – Required:

 

· General computer knowledge.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure, multi-task and prioritize.

· Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

 

Skill and Knowledge – Desired:

 

· Work experience in construction and/or experience in carpentry, concrete, welding, hardware, small engine repairs, etc.

· Experience in Workplace Safety and Health.

· Prior experience in an educational environment.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

 

· Work involves some standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting.

· Ability to lift objects weighing more than 25 kgs.

· May be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, fumes, and hazardous/poisonous chemicals.

· On occasion may be required to work beyond normal working hours, including weekend or evening work with short or no notice.

· Provide emergency response outside of regular work hours when required.
