Purpose of Position
The Carpenter provides a variety of repair and construction services necessary to maintain the Division’s facilities and grounds in accordance with all governing codes.
Key Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Provides support for a wide variety of repair and services necessary to maintain and upgrade the Division’s facilities and grounds.
· General work includes (but is not limited to) roofing, eavestroughs and downspouts, flooring (carpets, vinyl tile, hardwood, ceramics, baseboards) wall surfaces (drywall, stucco, masonry), ceilings, windows, doors, hardware, concrete, chalkboards, tackboards.
· Assists in determining requirements for repairs, planning development, and work, as necessary.
· Prioritizes work to meet deadlines.
· Verifies receipt of goods for invoicing approval.
· Makes efficient use of time and materials.
· Maintains records of work performed.
· Maintains Divisional tools and equipment in safe and good working condition.
· Ensures the worksite is maintained in a safe and orderly fashion.
· Works cooperatively with other divisional staff and contractors.
· Performs other duties as may be assigned to support the efficient operation of the Department.
Skills and Qualifications
Skill and Knowledge – Required:
· Journeyman status (carpenter).
· Minimum of 8 years work experience in construction.
· Variety of other expert skills (concrete, welding, hardware, small engine repairs, etc.)
· General computer knowledge.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure, multi-task and prioritize.
· Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Skill and Knowledge – Desired:
· Experience in Workplace Safety and Health.
· Prior experience in an educational environment.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands
· Work involves some standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
· Ability to lift objects weighing more than 25 kgs.
· May be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, fumes, and hazardous/poisonous chemicals.
· On occasion may be required to work beyond normal working hours, including weekend or evening work with short or no notice.
· Provide emergency response outside of regular work hours when required.
