Location: Administration Office

Hours: Regular Full-Time - 7hrs/Day

Annual Salary Range: $45.19 - $54.43 an hour depending on qualifications

Purpose of Position

 

The Pembina Trails School Division’s Learning and Information Technologies department oversees all technology throughout its 36 schools and administrative offices.

 

Working with schools and technology staff, Network Managers ensure the optimal operation and security of network infrastructure and centralized IT services. This includes but is not limited to local and wide area networks, storage, backups, Internet and Intranet, file and print, e-mail, telecommunications, and cloud technologies.

 

The Network Manager, focused on systems and security, is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, security, and optimization of the Division’s network infrastructure. The incumbent in this role will design, implement and maintain network systems, proactively implement security measures, monitor performance, and trouble shoot issues. This position also involves managing security protocols and ensuring compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

· Monitors and manages security on servers, network infrastructure, and IoT devices.

· Proposes, tests, and applies security policies and configurations to meet security objectives of the servers and infrastructure.

· Works proactively by monitoring and scanning networks to respond to security incidents, analyzing vulnerabilities to eliminate threats and implementing preventative measures.

· Creates network policies and authorization roles to defend against unauthorized access, modifications, and destruction.

· Ensures the smooth, reliable, and effective operation of networks and centralized IT services, including availability, capacity and security.

· Contributes knowledge and expertise to divisional business continuity planning.

· Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs server, storage, and network hardware and software.

· Develops, implements, and maintains best practices for network and IT service administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery.

· Researches, tests, and evaluates hardware, software, and standards in view of recommending appropriate purchases.

· Supports, configures and maintains various cloud technologies.

· Maintains accurate records including IT requests (work orders), network asset inventories, configuration documents, technical specifications, and troubleshooting records.

· Administers and maintains end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.

· Performs system backups and recovery.

· Monitors and tests network performance and provides performance statistics and reports.

· Recommends, schedules, and performs network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.

· Mentors’ other members of the IT team.

· Performs other duties as may be assigned to support the efficient operation of the Department.

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

Skill and Knowledge – Required:

 

· Post-secondary education in Information Technology or another related field and 3 or more years’ experience with Network and Server Administration.

· Knowledge and understanding of security standards such as CIS and NIST.

· Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including servers, switches, firewalls, storage area networks, SIP, and so on.

· Working technical knowledge Windows 10/11, Windows Server, Active Directory, PowerShell and M365.

· Knowledge of cybersecurity and privacy legislation.

· Proven analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve network issues.

· Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· Strong organizational and time management skills, with ability to work under pressure, multi-task and prioritize.

· Strong attention to detail.

· Excellent customer service skills.

 

Skill and Knowledge – Desired:

 

· Prior experience in an educational environment.

· Experience with project management.

· IT-specific certifications such as ITIL, CompTIA Net+, Comp TIA Security+

· Microsoft Certifications

· Work is performed mainly in an office environment, however, may also need to work in schools.
