HVAC Technician
Hours: 8 hours per day
Start Date: As soon as possible
Qualifications
- Gas Fitters License required (Level A desired, B minimum).
- Commercial Journeyman HVAC and Refrigeration License.
- Backflow Prevention Testing Certificate considered an asset.
- Several years of commercial experience in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning maintenance.
- Working knowledge of DDC control systems considered an asset.
- Plumbing service and repair experience, as well as other related building maintenance skills considered an asset.
- Computer experience would be an asset.
- Class 5 Drivers License and reliable automobile required.
Responsibilities
- Working under the direction of the Utilities Supervisor - is responsible for a wide variety of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning repair and installation services necessary to maintain and upgrade the Division’s facilities (34 schools and 3 administration buildings totaling 1.9 million square feet).
- Work includes (but not limited to) installation, replacement, troubleshooting, repairing and testing of HVAC systems and their components. Assists in supervision of HVAC contractors.
- Prepares boilers for inspections by governing authorities as required.
- Performs HVAC work for building renovations and minor additions.
- Makes recommendations for the modification or upgrading of HVAC systems and components as required to ensure the ongoing safety and energy efficiency of facilities.
- Installs and replaces motors and fans.
- Assists the plumber with their work when required.
- Meets with facility staff to determine requirements for new HVAC work, assists in the development of plans, and provides quotes for materials and work necessary.
- Prioritizes work in order to meet deadlines.
- Orders materials as required and verifies receipt of goods for invoicing approval.
- Makes arrangements for outside contractors, supervises their work and recommends payment of related invoices.
- Makes efficient use of time and materials.
- Provides a standard of high quality workmanship.
- Maintains records of work performed.
- Maintains Divisional tools and equipment in a safe and good working condition.
- Ensures the worksite is maintained in a safe and orderly fashion.
- Supervises and guides assigned helpers.
- Works cooperatively with other divisional trades staff, contractors and all Divisional staff.
- Assists other trades staff when required.
- Performs shift work from time to time as may be required.
- Provides emergency response outside of regular work hours when required.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
